Disco Italia (Album)

Kasso - Brazilian Dancer (DJ Version)

I'm not going to write too much about this album for a number of reasons, for starters the title 'Disco Italia: Essential Italo Disco Classics 1977 - 1985' sums it up pretty well. Then there's the fact that it's a compilation album so the tracks are all by different artists and spread over an eight year period so differ greatly. Finally the CD comes with a very interesting booklet about Italo Disco, its roots, inspiration, stars and explanations for the inclusion of each track and how it contributed to the scene.

I doubt it's a coincedence that this album came out in the heat of summer as it's exactly the right music to listen to whilst sweating on the beach or whilst getting in the mood to sweat in a club (although when these songs originally came out they were designed to be the music that made you sweat in the club). My personal favourite is '1979 It's Dancing Time' by Revanche but i couldn't find it on imeem and if i upload it myself you only get a 30 second preview. This track is also darned good and if 'Brazillian Dancer' sounds vaguely familiar it's probably because Headman borrowed the guitar riff for 'Birth, School, Work, Death' which just goes to show good this album is if he's sampling it.

'Disco Italia' is released on Strut which is part of the !K7 label and goes a good way to explaining why it's so enjoyable (!K7 and its subsidaries boast a pretty awesome back catalogue). As usual with anything i post on here, i'd suggest buying this, particularly if you like disco, dance music, the sun (not the paper) or listening to disco dance music in the sun.
