Grovesnor - Drive Your Car (Single)

Grovesnor - Drive Your Car (Hot Chip Remix)

This song has been stuck in my head for days so if you haven't already started listening to it you might want to think twice.

Grovesnor is the band of Rob Smoughton who used to be in Hot Chip, i've heard a lot of people say 'you can see the similarities' and such things but i think this is far more accessible than a lot of Hot Chip's stuff especially when compared to 'The Warning'. They were at Somewhere In The Universe a few weeks ago and played a great set of slow jam, soulful electro. Full of soft pulsing synths, funky bass and strong melodic male vocals (something i haven't heard a lot of recently).

'Drive Your Car' is available on vinyl now (i got mine from Rounder Records) and includes 3 remixes. One from Hot Chip themselves which strips the track all the way down to just it's driving bassline before occassionally bursting into the explosion of synth and vocal brilliance that is the chorus which immediately makes me think of the 80's despite not being old enough to remember any of it/them. The other 2 are from Bird Peterson who turns it slightly garage-y and Oliver $ who cuts up the vocal (and inserts a bizarre Super Mario clip) to make a fidgit house track, both of which tamper with the original far too much for my liking. The single is released on GrecoRoman.
