Friendly Fires - Friendly Fires (Album)

Two days, two updates, two bands discovered by Moshi Moshi and two odd genre pairings. This time it's Friendly Fires with Disco/Shoegaze, this one's not quite as accurate as yesteday's summation but their self titled album does include some of disco's dream funk qualities and a little of the soundscapes associated with shoegaze. More importantly, though, it's pop, brilliant shining pop, right from the very beginning 'Friendly Fires' is about catchy bouncing basslines, short sharp snatches of guitar, electro synths, smooth vocals and cowbell. Every song on here is a singalong, smile inducing mini-party leading you from start to finish without so much as a breath to think 'i wonder if i preferred the track i just heard to the one i'm listening to now'. The CD just finishes and you're left thinking 'wow that was an album full of really awesome songs'. If i had to pull a favourite out it would probably be 'White Diamonds', both 'On Board' and 'Photobooth' have already been released and 'Jump In The Pool' is the latest single but why stop there if you've got an album full of single-worthy songs, why not release them all?

If you have the album already and you want to track down some more FF goodness then look out for their cover of 'Your Love', any of their videos or the Nightmoves remix of 'On Board'.
